We are a certified organic, sustainable, small, family-owned farm and a chemical-free, veganic fruit orchard located in Ventura County on the Central Coast of Southern California, USA.

Zava Ranch spans twenty acres of citrus and avocado trees, all cultivated ethically, sustainably, and completely without chemicals (“beyond organic”) in our veganic, pesticide-free orchard.

Our trees grow in the sunshine and are tended with care—cultivated and harvested ethically, sustainably, and without the use of animal products, pesticides, or any inputs other than water.

We live and raise our children where we grow and harvest fruit.

We eat fruit from our own trees.

Our kids play in the orchard.

Health, safety, and nutritional value are our top priorities and at the heart of everything we grow. Our fruit is always beyond organic, chemical-free, veganic, unwaxed, and unsprayed.

We never spray the trees or add anything to the soil.

We don’t wash, wax, size-sort, artificially ripen, treat with chemicals or enhance the fruit in any way.

We practice Natural Farming: no fertilizers, no pesticides, and no herbicides—regardless of whether the chemicals are labeled “natural,” “allowable,” or “synthetic.”

We never use agricultural inputs derived from animals (such as blood meal, bone meal, feather meal, fish meal, fish emulsion, shrimp compost, or manure), and we encourage the presence of wild native animals on the land.

Our fruit goes straight from the tree into the box and arrives at your door within 2–3 business days—our way of supporting a true farm-to-table lifestyle for households without local citrus or avocado.

Is chemical-free fruit the same as “organic”?

No. One of the biggest misconceptions is that “organic” means “grown without chemicals.”
The truth is:

• “Organic” is a certification describing which chemicals may be used.

• Fruit labeled “organic” can still be sprayed with pesticides and fertilized with animal-based products.

• As large-scale farming has expanded, organic standards have shifted and become less strict, leading to confusion and controversy around what is allowed.

At Zava Ranch, we grow fruit without any chemicals at all—not even those allowed under organic rules.

Isn’t all fruit—especially organic fruit—vegan by definition?

Unfortunately, no.

Because organic farming restricts synthetic chemicals, it often relies heavily on animal-based amendments, including blood meal, bone meal, feather meal, fish meal, fish emulsion, shrimp compost, and manure.

Veganic farming, by contrast, uses plant-based systems for soil health and productivity, such as mulch, plant-based compost, green manure, chipped branch wood, polyculture, crop rotation, and soil-building biodiversity.

These methods support healthy ecosystems without relying on the exploitation of animals.
